Privatus Text Messaging Program

Privatus sends text messages only to customers who ask for them, and only about their own account. We never send marketing texts. This page explains each program, how you opt in, and how to stop.

By entering your mobile number and ticking the consent box in your Privatus portal, you agree to receive customer care text messages from Privatus at that number, answering your account, privacy and security questions. If you turn on Phone Protection and tick its consent box, you also agree to receive a confirmation text and the texts people send to your private Privatus number. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Privatus Assistant

Privatus customers on plans that include the AI assistant can text questions about their own privacy, such as how many data broker sites list them, the status of removal requests, or recent breach alerts, or general security questions such as whether a text is a scam, and get a short reply by text from (217) 829-2101. Replies give summaries only. They never contain full addresses, Social Security numbers, passwords or card numbers.

How you opt in. Sign in to your account at joinprivatus.com, open Profile, and choose Text Privatus. Enter your mobile number and tick the box to agree to the terms shown below; the box is never ticked for you. Then choose Get my code and text the one-time code from that same phone to confirm it is yours. The code only works from the number you entered. You always send the first message, and opting in is never required to use Privatus.

The opt-in form as it appears in the signed-in portal (Profile, Text Privatus). After you tick the box and choose Get my code, the portal shows a one-time code, such as LINK 482913, to text to (217) 829-2101 from the number you entered.

What you will receive. One confirmation text when you opt in, with a contact card so you can save Privatus to your contacts, and then replies to the questions you send. Msg frequency varies with your use. Msg & data rates may apply.

Sample messages:

  • “You're connected to the Privatus Assistant. Text any question about your exposures, breaches or staying safe online. Tap the card to save Privatus to your contacts. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.”
  • “You're listed on 12 data broker sites right now, and removal requests are in progress on 9 of them. Your home address appears on 4. Full details are in your portal at joinprivatus.com.”
  • “Privatus Assistant: text questions about your exposures, breaches or online security. Help: support@joinprivatus.com. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “That message has the signs of a phishing scam: an urgent tone and a link to a look-alike site. Don't tap the link. Go to your bank's app or website directly instead.”
  • “You're unsubscribed from the Privatus Assistant and won't get more texts. Reply START to turn it back on.”

Phone Protection (masked numbers)

Customers who turn on Phone Protection get a private Privatus number to give out instead of their real one. Calls and texts to it are forwarded to the customer's own phone, and the customer can text back through it, so their contacts only ever see the private number. Every message is written by the customer or the person texting them; Privatus adds no marketing.

How you opt in. Sign in at joinprivatus.com, open Phone Protection, and choose New masked number. Enter the phone you want texts forwarded to and tick the box to agree to the terms shown below; the box is never ticked for you, and the number cannot be created without it. Privatus then sends one confirmation text to that phone.

The Phone Protection opt-in form as it appears in the signed-in portal.

What you will receive. One confirmation text when the number is created, then the texts people send to your private number, each marked with who sent it. Msg frequency varies with how many texts you get. Msg & data rates may apply. You can reply to anyone who has texted your private number, and your reply goes out from the private number.

Reply-only. A private number can only text people who texted it first. Customers cannot use it to start a conversation with someone new, so every person who gets a text from a private number began that conversation themselves.

Sample messages:

  • “Privatus: Your masked number +14155550142 is active — calls and texts to it now forward to this phone. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to unsubscribe.”
  • “[From: +14155550199] Hi, is the couch still for sale? Reply to answer. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
  • “Yes, still available. Free to come by Saturday? Sent via Privatus. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “Privatus Phone Protection relays texts between your private number and your real phone. Support: support@joinprivatus.com. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “You won't receive any more texts from this number. Reply START to allow them again.”

Anyone who texts a private number can reply STOP to stop getting texts from it, and the customer can reply STOP to stop forwarding.

Help and opting out

Reply STOP to any Privatus text to opt out. You will get one confirmation and no further texts. Reply START to opt back in, or HELP for help. You can also unlink your phone from Profile in the portal, turn off Phone Protection there, or email support@joinprivatus.com. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your privacy
